for Bill Carter, on having his book with me at Esalen

Body,   Body

Belly beautiful --
bellybutton
umbilical to the body
and the baby --
  bay of coves and
  curves and contours,
  curvaceous female body
bathed in light and shadow,
shadow and light,
a fine fur of hair
furling across a wind-bellied plain,
  the nibes of goose-pimpled skin
  dotting a moon-
  illumined landscape.

Stuff as dreams are made on ...

Your photos paint the innermost essence of human nature. Wordsworth said that poetry is made of "emotions recollected in tranquility," and that's exactly what I feel about your images. I believe you're able to grasp the deep sense of emotions.

"Illuminations" reminds me of Angels, which I'm extremely interested in, and leads me to find relationships with Romanticism and Symbolism, which I'm very fond of.

Actually your book gives us the widest possibility of interpretation according to our inclinations and this makes it even more charming and appealing.

You translate Prospero's thought in Shakespeare's Tempest: "We are made of such stuff as dreams are made on ..."

WORMHOLE

Time traveler
through infinity,
through physicists' wormholes,
secret passages under Einstein's pedestal
across time and space.
A mausoleum in the flesh
of your belly,
a shrine to your connection
to your mother
to her mother
to her mother...
I feel the tingle of time
when we press together,
shrine against shrine,
sweetness alive, wet with desire
and possibility,
perhaps to create another time traveler,
another rebel against the tyranny
of right angles and clocks,
dodging waves and particles
to pass spirit
against all odds
through infinity.

It was such a pleasure meeting you at your Feb. 23rd Booksigning in Westwood.

You have a depth and a tenderness that shows in your work. The evening in that space at ModernBook had a sense of magic. Everyone seemed so familiar, like a soul cluster.

I love your book and am sharing it with friends. Your text has a poetic depth that touches the artist in us all. Your photographs, so delicately lit, are like a whisper.
